“Self-Mastery with Cycle of Life” By H. Spencer Lewis Review by Pierre S. Freeman Published in 1939

When I read a book like this, a book created by a master Mind Control artist, H. Spencer Lewis, the founder of AMORC, I do not rate according to truthfulness, accuracy or usefulness for the reader. I rate it on its value for creating a platform to use in controlling people to join or remain in a religious cult called AMORC- people like me.  How valuable was the tool? Did it serve a useful role in holding me, against my true nature, in the cult?  In a “Rosicrucian Diary” I wrote on November 23rd, 1983, three decades ago, I specifically mention this book as a possible solution to the extreme poverty I was facing after coming to the United States from Haiti. No sooner did I plan on buying it; then it occurred to me I knew some people who had it and procured it immediately. By reading it, I found that in my second cycle of life (according to the book), trips had to be short and perhaps I had stayed in the US too long. But, then, considering some of the difficulties involved in going back, I became confused and begged the Masters to help me. I don’t think, as cosmic as they were, they actually ever heard me. The fact is with all the study of the book and the work in the Lodges suggested by the book and the “secret” writings about the cycles in their monographs, I never got anywhere with this book- but it took a lot of time, reflection and commitment to analyze my situation- in what turned out to be a terrible waste of time. But in terms of Mind Control, it was one of their great tools, professing secret wisdom about the universe that made me think that AMORC was a door to prosperity, happiness and an expanded consciousness. “Self Mastery and Fate With the Cycles of Life” deserves the highest possible rating as a tool for creating and prolonging an affiliation with an organization that recruits and retains members by Mind Control techniques.
