A HARRY POTTER EXPERIENCE

As we mentioned, Degree 3, No. 9 of the Initiate Section, talks about educational ideals for children and the need for special sensitivity when the child is young. Still, despite the fine talk about how a child is closer to the spiritual realms than he is in latter stages of his development and how we should help him become more conscious of his dreams and be aware of the psychic nature of his early speech, what is the practical agenda for a Rosicrucian education?

What does AMORC seriously think is possible, if we, we can’t even agree if we should pray in schools much less incorporate occult exercises that permeate the monographs, involving telepathy, teleportation and gazing into crystal balls? In the name of spirituality, are we going to teach our children how to become invisible if they are being bullied in the playground? Are we going to put an athanor (an alchemical furnace) in the corner of the physics lab? Are we going to have them take over their teacher’s consciousness if they feel they need better grades?

Despite the urbane suggestions of AMORC, its educational program looks like it should be a lot more like Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry than the quiet, nurturing, spiritual atmosphere of the Perfect World I was thinking of when I first looked at this monograph.
