In my last blog “Nothing as a Dogma”, I began a discussion of how cult dogma is used to back engineer the cult personality by progressively influencing and deepening the belief system of the Rosicrucian member. To this end, I brought up an
example from the Initiate Series of Monographs, Degree 3, No. 1, which says, “Although some scientists are still pondering the questions of extraterrestrial life, the Rosicrucian teachings have affirmed for centuries that life may be present on other planets.”
On the surface, it seems to say that the Rosicrucians “affirm” – or state positively life is present on other planets. In an earlier part of the Monograph they say, “Certain stories also hint that the Earth, in its most remote past, “received the visit of god-men coming from the sky, from beyond the Great Cosmic Ocean” and proceed to say how these beings influence human culture by providing them with the tools of civilization.
So now we think that the Rosicrucians are affirming life on other planets- that their initiates have known for centuries what scientists still do not know- that life exists on other planets.
But, actually, in examining what AMORC actually says, it is quite different. In fact, all they say is that “Rosicrucian teachings have affirmed for centuries that life MAY BE PRESENT ON OTHER PLANETS.” In other words, they are only admitting that a possibility. In what sense, then, are they better than the scientists who are struggling with the question of extraterrestrial life- if they do not KNOW, if they are only affirming a possibility? How is the Rosicrucian teaching more advanced than the scientific knowledge of today?
Here, in fact, you have a rather elaborate dogma, which actually means nothing. The member is given a license to believe something backed up by hundreds of years of, in the language of the monograph, just speculation. To some extent, I explain the personal effect on me of this type of indoctrination in The Prisoner of San Jose.
The fact is that this kind of doctrine is kind of like the Seinfeld episodes about their proposed television show- a television show that unlike others with developed plot, characters and themes- is actually about nothing.
How does believing in nothing help accomplish any kind of Mind Control goals? I will examine that in my next blog.
